The Ellen Design Festival (EDF) is a standout event in our academic calendar, serving as a vibrant bridge between classroom learning and public interaction. It is a day dedicated to celebrating the effort students put into their work throughout the year, providing a relaxed yet professional environment for them to share their progress.
For anyone considering a future in design—whether in the world of fashion or the spaces we inhabit—EDF offers a clear look at the practical, hands-on culture that defines our campus.
A Space for Exhibition and Interaction
The core of the festival is the Student Exhibition, where the campus turns into a multi-disciplinary gallery. This is where both Fashion and Interior Design students step out of the studio to showcase their technical growth.
- Interior Design & Craftsmanship: Our Interior Design students present a diverse range of work, from detailed architectural models to handcrafted furniture pieces and home décor accents. Visitors get to see the behind-the-scenes process: how a concept sketch evolves into a technical drawing, and finally into a tangible 3D piece using wood, metal, or sustainable materials.
- Fashion & Textile Displays: Alongside the interior exhibits, fashion students display their garment constructions and textile manipulations, allowing guests to see the intricate details of their handiwork up close.
- Practical Exposure: It’s an opportunity for students to explain their design process—how they solved a space-planning issue or chose a specific material—to a real audience.
Open Mic: A Mix of Art and Performance
EDF is enriched by an Open Mic session that brings a different kind of energy to the festival. With participants coming from various parts of the country, the stage becomes a melting pot of talent.
From music and poetry to storytelling, these performances happen alongside the design showcases, creating a lively atmosphere where students can relax and enjoy the diverse creative expressions of their peers from all over India.
The Fashion Walk: Presenting the Vision
The festival also features a Fashion Walk, a segment where the garments created in our fashion labs are presented in motion.
Rather than just seeing a design on a mannequin, the audience gets to see how the fabric moves and how the final look comes together. For the parents in attendance, it is a rewarding moment to see the tangible results of their children’s hard work and dedication presented clearly and professionally. It is a simple, effective way to celebrate the completion of a creative cycle.
A Day for the Community
What makes EDF special is the sense of community it fosters. It brings together students, faculty, families, and guests for a day centered on "Happiness and Work."
For newcomers, it provides a realistic glimpse into the college atmosphere—showing that while the work is demanding, the environment is supportive and celebratory. Whether you are interested in designing a collection or a living space, the festival reminds us that design is about the joy of making something with your own hands and the satisfaction of seeing it appreciated by others.
